The Cascading Gardens
Woondaree Street Gardens, nestled in the heart of Bracken Ridge, exemplifies the art of harmonizing architectural elements with the surrounding natural landscape.
This thoughtfully designed project by Barc Studios showcases a seamless integration of soft landscaping to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the property. The design intent was to create a secure landscaped space within an urban medium density area with multifunctionality to that the space would change and adapt over time with owners of the home.
The property’s striking frontage is defined by a prominent retaining structure that initially dominated the streetscape. To counterbalance its imposing presence, the Barc landscape team took a creative approach, introducing cascading garden plant species that drape over the walls to provide coverage and a softening effect to the walls extent. The planting layers not only soften the hard lines of the architecture but also create a welcoming, visually appealing facade while additionally providing a screening to the front entry of the home as well as the easement boundaries to create a sense of enclosure.
Moving beyond the frontage, the backyard meets a more practical use. The back boundary blends into a productive oasis, providing for mixed uses of the space, with sustainable and functional materials. Using durable, eco-friendly materials, the productive planting areas seamlessly integrate with the existing home garden aesthetic. These zones were thoughtfully designed to encourage sustainable living through the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, fostering a deeper connection between the homeowners and their environment.
The landscape design was to act as a harmonious extension of its surroundings, celebrating nature’s ability to soften and enhance architectural features as well as the creation of space enjoyable to be in.
